“The ideal conditions for the arts include a communal recognition that they are a gift to society and need some protection. Artists who swim in the waters of culture need to be protected if they are to survive.”
-Makoto Fujimura

We are profoundly thankful to all who donated to our Dancer Relief Fund. Because of you the Dance Theatre will be awarding 27 tuition-gap scholarships to local dance students in need and will fund 100% of the Zoom Reimbursement Applications. More artists will “swim in the waters of culture” because of your generosity.

Kids In Motion

Kids in Motion is a long-established program that recently has come under the auspices of CSDT. For 40 years it gave children in underserved schools in Colorado Springs a chance to take after-school dance lessons in their home school at a highly reduced cost.

During its 40-year existence, nearly 1,000 children have been involved and we’d like to congratulate this year’s 25 participants on their culmination.

It was not how we originally planned, but in spite of the challenges, we’re proud of their resilience and perseverance to dance through to the end.

Safely and socially distant of course!

Re-Direct

Due to the cancelation of Ascend in April, our local choreographers were unable to premiere their works at the Ent Center for the Arts. We are pleased to re-direct their work to a new platform.

CSDT has commissioned a short dance film from each Ascend Choreographer with an open-ended prompt to respond to the cultural upheaval of the moment. A new video will premiere every month for the next 4 months and we can’t wait to share them with you!

Please enjoy our first commissioned short film, “Tension to Joy and Back Around” by Becca Loevy. Its whimsical approach will surely put a smile on your face!

Thank you to our generous sponsors!
