]]> Axis accomplishes its mission through three pillars of activity artistry, engagement, and advocacy. The heart of AXIS is the commissioning, creation, and performance of contemporary dance that developed through the collaboration of dancers with and without physical disabilities. The artistic vision is to collaborate with highly profile choreographers and cutting-edge innovative dance makers of our time. More than any other company in the United States, AXIS has been at the forefront of the field, building a bridge between contemporary dance, integrated dance, and disability culture. AXIS’ outreach program began in 1989 in direct response to community demand by those who saw our performances and wanted to study this new form of dance. AXIS maintains a more extensive engagement program than any other integrated dance program in the United States or abroad.

]]> FLOCK is a co-choreography company founded in 2017 by Florian Lochner and Alice Klock. As FLOCK, they create and perform their own work, teach as a team, create new works on schools and companies, and produce our shows in the US and abroad. FLOCK as a performing company operates with the same mission at its core. With Alice and Florian as the constant, the company expands and contracts to include an international team of guest artists. Any artist who participates in FLOCK is not asked to fit into a mold but is rather asked to express and explore their craft in a collaborative setting fully. They believe that respecting and caring for each artist enables them to tap into and express the full power of their artistry.

CSDT will expand its mission to promote creative dance research in the Pikes Peak region by commissioning six local aspiring choreographers and providing them with expert industry feedback through collaborative choreology workshops, a commission package worth over $500, and a performance opportunity at the Ent Center for the Arts on April 10th, 2020.

Submissions due January 15th. More information to come!

The program was created to honor Esther Geoffrey’s numerous dance contributions to the Colorado Springs community since the 1960s. The Colorado Springs Dance Theatre is proud that over the past twenty-four years they have expanded the program and brought some of the most significant dance companies to their community to not only perform but to educate local dancers as well. CSDT has awarded over $40,000 dollars in scholarships to local dancers during the life span of The Esther Geoffrey Youth Dance Scholarship Program. The 24th Annual Esther Geoffrey Young Dancers Scholarship Program Master Class will be lead by the talented co-choreography company FLOCK.

]]> In partnership with UCCS Presents Artist Series, Colorado Springs Dance Theatre will provide middle and high-school students in the Pikes Peak region access to a world-class dance event.

Targeting youth from our communities least advantaged and culturally underserved areas, CSDT aims to bring over 2,000 children in our community to a professional dance performance with radically reduced ticket costs, free transportation. With generous community support and grants, Pivot will provide in-school curricula enhancing engagements, school bus transportation and a radically reduced-cost ticket to one of 5 student matinees occurring over the course of the season at  Ent Center. This comprehensive educational event gives the future generation an opportunity to see a live performance and ask questions of nationally renowned professionals, ultimately expanding the creative and cultural experience of every child. Pivot extends CSDT’s mission to promote the art of dance and offers a collaborative way in which our city’s youth can grow to appreciate the importance of art, culture, and community. Colorado Springs Dance Theatre, in partnership with the Ent Center for the Arts, is committed to shifting the focus of Pikes Peak area youth toward creative endeavors, possibilities, and models of success through the arts.

It is an introductory program with various genres, including modern dance, jazz, and ballet technique. The Saturday classes, held at First Christian Church, September-April, have limited availability. The students perform in three shows in April at different locations in the community, including The Citadel.  Many students have benefited from this program through the intellectual stimulation that movement and music offer.
